The Dining Room & Entryway
Welcome back to the blog! This is part 3 of a 4 part series covering the design behind “The House of Blues (In the Best Way ;)”. Two weeks ago, we dove into the details in the kitchen and breakfast nook (be sure to see that one here if you haven’t yet!). Last week, we talked about the beautiful Living Room (You can see that one here), and today we’re revealing the gorgeous Dining Room & Entryway! I can’t WAIT to show you this transformation, so let’s jump right to it with some before and after pics of…
The Dining Room
Before…
And AFTER…
We debated opening this wall behind the dining table to the kitchen, but ultimately, the loss of storage would have been too much, and the homeowners honestly liked having a bit of division between the two spaces. (This is actually becoming more common again these days! We have the pandemic to thank for that ;). So, we opted to keep the wall but to give it a purpose & more of a visual statement. That allowed us more flexibility in the budget to put towards other things anyway, like this STUNNING custom sideboard and floating shelves. We added in the sconces here as well (that match the sconces in the living room), and I love how they add the perfect amount of glow to the room and highlight the decor on the shelves. The chandelier was a sentimental piece that we kept as a nod to the homeowners’ time in Texas, and I think it all works beautifully together. An elegantly simplified dining set and textural, solid-toned rug anchor everything together.
It’s so cozy & glowy now, right?! And just across from the Dining Room, we have…
The Sitting Room & Entryway
which was a largely unused space that lacked purpose before. I wanted to give these clients a space to sit with visitors or gather around the tree with family at Christmas time ( because this big ol’ window is the PERFECT tree window). I love this cute little navy blue loveseat and pair of super cozy Boucle armchairs to complete the vibe. My FAVORITE furniture piece in this space, though, is the beautiful natural stone coffee table with those salmon & grey veins that tie in the rug so beautifully. The art piece here is a painting from my friend, Michelle Isham (@michelleishamart on IG). I LOVE how the organic lines juxtapose the sharp rectangles in the room, and those deep navy tones pull everything together perfectly!
Before…
After…
As an anchor to the entryway, you’ll find a rustic industrial console table, which is a piece the client already owned (another sentimental keep from their previous home in Texas), and the large mirror above (which is actually 60” high for scale!), is the perfect addition to reflect the natural light coming in from the windows adjacent and across from it. I just love this little vignette.
The Staircase…
Before…
After…
This staircase was actually an add-on to our scope towards the end of the project, but I am SO glad that we ended up going for it. Removing the carpet and replacing it with white risers and black walnut treads to tie in the rest of the millwork detailing in the house was the best decision. The new custom-welded iron railing lends a clean-lined statement that’s sharp, but simple enough to let the other elements in the room speak.
I love this entry and dining space as the first impression of this home. It has so many pretty little moments and sets your eyes up for all of the other visual treats around the corner in the kitchen and living room! Tell me your thoughts in the comments below, friends!
I’ll see you next week when we reveal the Laundry & Powder Bathroom! (SO excited for those!!) Here’s a little sneak peek…
Xoxo,
Alyssa
