Well, hello friends! 2022 was a long and FULL year, wasn’t it? Hill Interiors turned 5 (what?!), we had bigger projects and a denser calendar than ever before, and the current of growth that came from all of that was so incredible to be swept up in. I’m immensely grateful for all of the amazing clients and beautiful projects this past year! With all of that hustle, however, also came the increased need to balance, adapt, and repeat. That said, I have an announcement to make (though, if the title “Why Virtual Design is the New Black” isn’t a dead giveaway, I don’t know what is. Hah!).
The Hill Interiors Scoop…
While I truly adore the renovation and restoration process, I’ve thoughtfully decided to pull back on these types of projects and turn my focus instead to High-End Virtual Design projects. It became clear to me last year that to continue at my current capacity with full-scope renovations and project management, I would either need to begin the hiring process and build a team and a traditional brick-and-mortar design firm, OR I’d need to adapt and pivot a bit.
This “little” business of mine decided to take off on its own and demand much more from me than I was able (and willing) to give by myself. I found myself at a crossroads, and (at least for now) decided that the full-on traditional design firm path isn’t for me. I know, I know, I surprised myself too. ; ) However, with a dwindling personal capacity for project (especially third-party) management and a sudden increase in demand for virtual design projects, the right decision seemed clear and dropped right into my lap.
This incredibly exciting transition to a Virtual Design business model will allow me to focus more on the creative aspects of interior design, which honestly is the thing that revs my engine the most, as well as allow more time for other pursuits (wink, wink) which I’m also VERY pumped about and will dive further into shortly. For now, let’s chat about …
Why I think Virtual Design will become the design GOAT…

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again; Virtual Design is THE best way to implement a polished and professional design into your space without blowing your budget. Here’s why:
- Same High-End Design, Better Price Tag: You’re still getting the same intentional, personal, and high-quality Hill Interiors design as always. (Hi, I’m Alyssa, and I’m a perfectionist by nature. There’s no way I could slack on design and still sleep at night. You’re welcome. ; ) I’ll design everything according to YOUR specified budget, wants, & needs, and will be in touch with you throughout the entire process. Rest assured, the process is still very much tailored to YOU.
- You Call the Shots: You can implement your design plans on your own timeline! I’ll give you a detailed list of installation instructions as well as a shopping list that you can buy from at any time on your own as your calendar and budget allow.
- Designer On-Call: I’ll be an email or call away throughout your project as needed! Whether you need a contractor recommendation or a second opinion on how high to hang your new art, I’m here for you!
- Back to That Killer Price Tag: If you’re renovating, the virtual design process ensures that you’re skipping my project management fees altogether by hiring a general contracting team or managing on your own. There’s no risk of double-paying for project management tasks! My plans will be detailed enough for you and/or a contractor to follow, and remember, if you need anything, I’m just a call or email away.
- It’s Home, Small Business, & Vacation Rental friendly: Historically, Hill Interiors has been a strictly residentially focused business, but Virtual Design is allowing me to provide a FANTASTIC option to those of you wanting to give your vacation rental guests a five-star experience as well as those of you who need help dreaming up the ideal storefront, office, or small business space! As I said; it’s allowing me to give you the best of design in the most budget and calendar-friendly format possible. What small business doesn’t benefit from that?
- Virtual = Anywhere: I’m not just limited to designing for Colorado residents. Plans-Only services are available within the contiguous USA, and E-Design is available internationally!! I am so excited to quite literally expand my design borders!
Overall, this process is a super streamlined and cost-effective structure for both me AND my lovely clients. Serving this community well with great design has always been a top priority, and I feel that this change maintains that spirit brilliantly.

Option 1: E-Design
This option is perfect for those of you who need fresh paint, furniture, lighting & decor, etc. You won’t believe the difference cosmetic upgrades can make! Just send me photos and measurements, and fill out a quick questionnaire so that I can nail the needs & wants for your space, and 2 – 4 weeks later polished design plans will be delivered right to your inbox with instructions & a shopping list to match. Voila!
Option 2: Plans-Only
This option is for those basic renovations, such as a kitchen or bathroom renovation where the plumbing & footprint stays in the same place, but you’re wanting upgraded fixtures, finishes & an overall design. I love providing homeowners with solid plans and the confidence to either DIY these types of projects themselves, OR to hire the project out with great contractors. Either way, I’ll be sure that you’re set up for total remodel a success!

Option 3: The Hybrid
This option is new and is ONLY for those of you who live in the Colorado Springs region! This is essentially the same as E-Design or Plans-Only, except that I’d come to you for an initial in-person consultation and a final installation & walk-through when you’re ready. This is the best of all the worlds!
